New Investment 2010

The MJ Allen Group has invested over £700,000 in new machine tools and a temperature controlled inspection facility, housed in a newly extended machine shop.

The installations at the Ashford based company comprise a £300,000 Dugard Eagle HBM-4 CNC horizontal borer and a £200,000 Tos W110A Manual borer which have been completed to satisfy demand for a range of very complex military components. These large components were already being cast by the Group’s precision-sand aluminium foundry.

MJ Allen’s managing director, Tim Allen, embarked on the investment programme in response to increasing demand for machining from their customers of their aluminium (to 1 tonne) and iron (to 2 tonnes) sand castings and aluminium gravity die casting (to 50kg).

Said Tim Allen: “The HMB-4 is a high specification machine that will enable us to multiple load pallets of smaller parts or produce single complex components up to the working area of 2,200 mm in X, and 1,600 mm in Y and Z. The Tos W100A is of matching capacity, and a very high precision manual borer housed in a temperature controlled environment with adjacent inspection enabling the tightest of tolerances to be achieved and verified. Coupled with our foundries, existing CNC and conventional machine shop, assembly, painting and finishing on site, our customers can place a single order for cast and machined components of almost any size and volume.”

The MJ Allen Group is a family owned business based in the South East of England with 2010 sales of over £25m. Group Companies include expertise in patterns, casting and machining (MJ Allen), punch tooling and dies (Rydal), metrology (Verdict), sheet metal working machinery (Airworks, RMT, Gabro), architectural, restoration and conservation metalworking (Mather and Smith), after-market automotive clutch and brake (National Autoparts) and automotive transmission systems design (Countytrac).
